Movement Calibre - Valjoux 92 Movement Serial - N/A. Case features and serial dates to approx 1965. Dial appears to be original and genuine, in good condition. Dial is a 3rd Execution dial.
Tritium markers are slightly degraded, but appears to be original lume material. They glow under UV and then quickly fade. All font types and sizes appear to match known references.Dial features a retailer signature for Gubelin. This is in a slightly brighter shade of white than the other dial printing, but this conforms with most other examples of this retailer signature. Signature position is above the Autavia logo on the upper half of the dial, which is less common. More commonly on two register Autavias this signature is on the lower half of the dial. Hand styles, sizes and finishes all seem correct for a 3rd execution Ref.
3646M, as per the case serial number. Hour and minute hands are steel, stick shaped, with lu- minous centres, indicating they are the original. Hour and minute hand lume could be original tritium lume, it glows under UV but quickly fades.
It is likely be the original lume, as it matches the dial lume in all as- pects. Bezel appears in fair condition.
Font types would appear to indicate that it is an ori- ginal Hour bezel insert. Bezel is the earlier wide Transitional type. This case serial puts it just prior to the approximate range of 826xx to 83xxx for this bezel type but this range may be inaccurate. Case back appears in fair original condition.
Internal engravings appear genuine and original. Case back is marked Stainless Steel, Heuer-Leonidas SA, Swiss, and with HF Logo (Huguenin Freres).
Case back is marked with a selection of service mark- ings. Case back is post-1964, due to Heuer-Leonidas engraving.
Both companies merged in 1964. The case is in good condition, displaying expected marks from use.
Model number is not engraved between lugs, which is correct for its serial number range. Serial num- ber is engraved between lugs at 6.
Case is the bevelled lug type. Serial number places it just prior to the transitional case.
Pump pushers appear original and in fair condition. Pusher heads measure 4.4mm. The crown is unsigned and in fair condition. May be original, certainly not a modern replacement. The movement is a Valjoux Cal.
92, beating at 18000 A/h. Movement appears in fair to good condition.
All movement parts appear original as far as a visible without dis- mantling movement. All movement identifiers (part finishing, engravings and bridge shape/cutouts) seem to indicate that this is an original movement. Chronograph bridge is engraved Heuer Leonidas SA as it should be. Movement has 45 minute counter. In conclusion it would appear that this watch head is genuine and original. The case serial number is very early for this 3rd execution dial, placing it just prior to the ap- proximate transitional case range of 828xx to 83xxx.
The transitional case is be- lieved to be the first to exhibit the 3rd execution dial, but this may be inaccurate. Since the 2nd execution dial serial number range is much lower (53xxx to 59xxx) its unlikely that this dial is a later addition or marriage to an earlier case. In my opinion it is most likely that this is an original and complete example of a very early 3rd exe- cution. It is potentially a transitional watch, using what at the time was a new dial type, whilst using up the remaining older 1st execution case/bezels Heuer may have had remaining from the previous production run, just prior to beginning using the transitional case. Although its very difficult to authenticate the retailer signature, its my opinion that this is likely an original retailer signature.
