1977 Italjet CX (P6) 80R WORKS MOTOCROSS RACER. Extremely rare, possibly only one in USA. Made in ITALY Italjet'works' racer. NOT Taiwan Chinese made (like the little Indians). It needed a total restoration, so that's what we did.
Much like their extremely rare PR50 mini bikes (NOT the Bambinos), these were the machines given to the ItalJet team sponsored factory riders for mini MotoCross competition around the world. Go ahead and try to find any photos or info on the web for one of these bikes---you won't because they are so rare. Paoli long travel forks (rebuilt w/new seals and oil), Marzocchi shocks (restored), hand built coned up pipes,'Compact System' high performance cylinders and heads, special paint & graphics theme, etc. Please don't confuse this bike with the mass production Indian CX80 bikes. Unlike those Indians, these Italjet P680R's were basically'works' racers from the Motori Minarelli factory.
The Indians were mass produced play bikes and did not have all these trick race only pieces/parts on it like the Italjets did. This bike also sports rare Italjet cross bar pad, new mini bars & Magura like controls, original Italjet throttle, new cables, new brakes, new knobby tires & tubes (17), new air filter, seat custom recovered with original Italjet logo on rear, new custom plastic mini fenders ('79 RM80 custom made in black) and number plates, all w/custom pin striping added, frame repainted correct color blue, original tank restored in correct yellow with professional quality paint, pin stripe, clear coat, and graphics. The list goes on and on. Engine runs'ok' right now. It was rebuilt to the best of our ability, but these internal engine parts are extremely rare and I would not ride or race it without checking all internal components first. Has good compression and spark. I believe these came with mini Del'Lorto carbs but it now has a mini Mikuni on it.This bike is an Italjet CX80R and as you say is very rare indeed. The engine is a Minarelli P6 "Compact System" 80 CR the CR refers to the gearbox ratios... Your engine cases will be stamped 80cc and CR. The correct carburettor for the engine is a Dellorto VHBZ22BS.
The ignition is a Dansi electronic system. I have a rare 1978 Italjet PR50 and a very rare Italjet PR6 here in England. I think my PR6 is the only one in the UK. And another: Yes these Italjet models (PR50 PR6 and CX80R) were the pukka competition machines from the Italjet factory and used all the best components. I actually have a NOS engine for one of these CX80R bikes!
Apart from the bike in the test article i mentioned your CX80R is the ONLY example i have seen!! If you can find a correct Dellorto VHBZ 22 BS carburettor the engine will be all correct and original. This is a 41 year old vintage racing machine. This is a rare project bike--NO warrantees.
