Cement, mining, film, drilling, etc. He had offices and businesses from Portland to Boston. He also had his companies and employees do special projects for himself, friends, family and business associates.
I know this to be true because my grandfather graduated from Cooper Union with 2 engineering degrees and was recruited out of college to go work for him at the Brooklyn Edison company. The next year they acquired Flatbush Gas company my Grandfather worked on a number of projects for the company and a few times in the homes of people Edison knew. In 1936 it became Consolidated Edison Co. My Grandfather has several patents with his name attached but never saw a dime, he retired from Con Ed in 1963.
ANYWAY>> The wing nuts on this piece were made to fit this porthole. I know Edison made a lot of the specialty hardware for his systems and he either dabbled in making this whole item or it was made for a particular purpose like for his or someone he knew, their boat OR, perhaps he just didn't like the existing wing nuts and modified some of his own to fit, either him or just someone else in the company.Either way, they are Edison wing nuts. I doubt someone at the company would risk just stamping the company name on something they owned as then it could appear well you get the idea.
