Super rare vintage sign Allen Alderson and Co. Was a prominent British engineering and contracting firm based in Alexandria, Egypt, established around 1864 by Francis Allen and George Beeton Alderson. The firm was responsible for significant engineering and infrastructure projects throughout Egypt during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Irrigation and Pumping: They installed numerous large-scale British pumping plants for irrigation, including a major project at Baliana. Infrastructure: Their work included the erection of an iron swing bridge over the canal at Alexandria, an iron bridge at Wasta, and machinery for ginning and sugar factories. They were also involved in constructing a new dry dock at Alexandria. Philanthropy: Sir George Beeton Alderson was also known for his philanthropic work in Egypt and was instrumental in founding Victoria College and the Seamen's Home in Alexandria.
